OUTREACH MINISTER VOLUNTEER

(Visiting the Sick and Homebound, and Mary's Pantry)

 

The Outreach Ministry serves our parish community and the wider community though ministries of visiting the sick / Homebound) and Mary's Pantry.

 

GOAL OF POSITION

We believe that the Holy Spirit has prepared works for us to do, that will advance the body of Christ. We recognize God’s call to our church to serve both within our parish and also beyond: By bringing a caring presence and living reminder of God’s love in the name of the parish community to those who need it.

 PURPOSE

Outreach Volunteers serve the parish community by visiting the sick and homebound in local hospitals, homes, as well as in other care facilities, and, in some cases accompanying the priest to offer Holy Mass in health care facilities to share the love of God. Visits will include prayer, fellowship, check on well-being and distribution of Holy Eucharist (where appropriate with the permission of the Pastor). For safety reasons all Outreach visits are to be completed by two or more volunteers. Parishioners who have been and are in good standing with the Church are invited to participate.

 LENGTH OF COMMITMENT 2 years, renewable.

 RESPONSIBLE TO - Outreach Ministry coordinator and the Pastor.

 JOB DESCRIPTION

1. Outreach Volunteers accompany the priest to visit the sick and homebound in local hospitals, homes, as well as in other care facilities.

2. At times volunteers would visit homes or care facilities to pray, check on well-being and distribution of Holy Eucharist (where/when appropriate with the permission of the Pastor).

3. Whenever there is designated Holy Mass in the care facilities, Outreach volunteers would assist the priest in setting up the Altar and cleaning the vessels before and after the Mass and select hymns or songs that are appropriate to the liturgical theme to sing during Holy Mass.

4. Prayerfully serving the people as scheduled or requested

5. Attending training and formation programs for Extraordinary Ministers as required.
